Who is 'Sugar' Shane Mosley, Pacquiao's next opponent?

Shane Mosley or Shane Donte Mosley is also known as “Sugar” because his first 38 fights as a professional boxer were “sweet” and impressive. A resident of Pomona, California, Shane Mosley is already on his 17th year as a professional at present. He currently trains in Big Bear, California for his upcoming fight versus Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.




Shane, a 39-year old American who was born in Los Angeles, has a current record of 46 wins (39 by KO), 6 losses, 1 draw and 1 no contest. He is 5 foot 9 inches in height and has a reach of 74 inches.

The right-handed boxer is currently trained by Naazim Richardson and managed by James Prince.

In his 54 fights, Shane Mosley fought 20 world title fights. He won 15 (12 by KO) and lost 5. He was the former WBA welterweight world champion, former WBC super welterweight world champion, former WBA super welterweight world champion, former WBC welterweight world champion with three successful defenses and former IBF lightweight world champion with eight successful defenses.

During his amateur career, Shane also brought pride to his country. He won the Gold Medal of the 1992 U.S. National Championships at 139 pounds, Gold Medal of the 1990 U.S. National Championships at 132 pounds and Gold Medal of the 1989 U.S. National Championships at 132 pounds.

Shane Mosley has a higher KO percentage than his opponent on May 7, Manny Pacquiao. He won his first 38 fights. It was only the late Vernon Forrest who stopped his winning streak in Januart 26, 2002. Six months later, they fought a rematch and lost again. He holds the distinction of being the only fighter to defeat Oscar de la Hoya – at his best - twice. Other notable wins of Shane Mosley were against Antonio Margarito (Pacquiao’s latest opponent), Ricardo Mayorga, Fernando Vargas twice and Luis Collazo.
