Roach: Mayweather won't fight Pacman after Ortiz, maybe Khan

Celebrated trainer Freddie Roach believes that Floyd Mayweather Jr will never fight his most-prized ward, Manny Pacquiao, after the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight dubbed as Star Power: Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz to be televised at HBO PPV with a reality TV series 24/7 which will debut on August 27.

Roach is favoring Floyd Mayweather to win against "Vicious" Victor Ortiz on September 17. He believes the undefeated former pound-for-pound king will win via stoppage. But after that fight, he don't see any possibilities of Floyd facing Pacman. Manny Pacquiao, a congressman in the Philippines, is also scheduled for a Pacquiao vs Marquez fight on November 12. If both boxing stars win their respective fights, it makes the most sense to finally settle the mega-fight between Floyd and Manny.

The problem is that both camps have their own protocols. The boxing fans can't do anything about it unless the promoters - Top Rank and Golden Boy - and the boxers - Floyd and Manny - will finally agree to everything in the contract.

Roach fells that Mayweather may not choose to fight Pacquiao because his zero is at risk when he fights him. The Michigan native may choose to fight Amir Khan, who also trains with Freddie Roach, for his next fight.

Amir Khan, the current WBA 140-pound champion is scheduled to the Khan vs Judah fight this July 23 and if Amir wins, his chances at getting a crack at Floyd will be high. Khan is confident the fight will happen in a year because, like Pacquiao, he is also a big draw in the sport.

"I don't think Mayweather will ever fight Manny Pacquiao,” Roach said. "[Team Khan] have a better chance of getting Mayweather into the ring than Manny. If the fight (Mayweather-Pacquiao) was going to happen, it would've happened already." said Roach in a report by Boxingscene.com.
