Morales may fight Barrios in the Mayweather-Ortiz undercard

In his last ring appearance, against Marcos Rene Maidana of Argentina, Erik "El Terrible" Morales (51-7, 35 KO) showed the world that even at the age of 34 years old he still has the power and speed comparable to a much younger boxer. Even though he lost, he exhibited his skills and telling everyone that he is still an entertaining fighter.

It was previously announced that Erik Morales would be facing Anthony Crolla (21-2, 9 KO) of the UK on the Mayweather vs Ortiz Undercard which will happen on September 17 in the Sin City. But as the days gone by, Golden Boy have initially decided to go for Jorge Barrios, a much tougher and more experienced fighter than Crolla.

Erik Morales, the last boxer to win against Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao (next fight: Pacquiao vs Marquez), was previously scheduled to fight Jorge Barrios in December 2010. Because of the legal issues of Jorge from leaving his country, Morales decided to fight Francisco Lorenzo, a much easier boxer.

Since the legal issues of Barrios to fight in the US have been finally resolved, he may fight Erik Morales inside the luxurious MGM Grand Arena.

If the Morales vs Barrios fight will be finalized, it will be for the vacant WBC light welterweight title. Erik Morales is highly expected to win this bout but Barrios may be too much for him. If Erik wins this bout, he might face Amir Khan in December because both of them are under the flag of Golden Boy.
