Confident Mayweather bets Ortiz and Oscar $2.5-M each

Obviously because of his clean record as a boxing professional, Floyd Mayweather Jr is over-confident that he will win on Sept 17 against current World Boxing Council Welterweight title-holder Victor Ortiz Jr.

"If Victor Ortiz believes in himself and Oscar De La Hoya believe in Victor Ortiz, I bet 'em both $2.5 million a piece," according to Floyd as he took a short rest from punching the heavy bag. He told the media and fans who were in front of him that he's more than willing to see just how positive his opponent Victor Ortiz, as well as his promoter Oscar de la Hoya, really are concerning their odds to be the first to break his clean undefeated record.

During the media workout yesterday, Floyd looked sharp and confident of his win in the upcoming Ortiz vs Mayweather fight ten days from now. After he told everyone about the bet, the room immediately went soundless as Floyd made it apparent that he's being serious about his offer.

Mayweather looking sharp during media workout

Undefeated boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr opened his doors to the fans and the media yesterday evening for an open workout prior to his forthcoming fight against Victor Ortiz Jr on Saturday, September 17th live in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This will give the fans and media a glimpse of how ready he is for the upcoming mega-event titled as Star Power. Mayweather personally hand-picked Ortiz after seeing the latter acquired the WBC Welterweight Belt against previously undefeated Andre Berto in April. Floyd was excited to tell Victor that he wants to fight him next, give the fans an entertaining fight and give him a good percentage of the total money the whole event will make.

Floyd Mayweather vs Ortiz is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, a company owned by Mexican-American Oscar de la Hoya. It will be co-promoted by Mayweather Promotions, the promotional company of Floyd, together with HBO PPV and MGM Grand.

Why Ortiz, not Cotto, Margarito or Pacquiao for Mayweather?

We all know that Floyd Mayweather Jr won against prime boxers in recent years, except probably on his last fight against old Shane Mosley, who is already at the twilight of his career. Years ago, Mayweather fought against highly-skilled popular boxers including previously undefeated Ricky Hatton from England, Mexican-American Oscar de la Hoya, and Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez among many others. In all of his 41 fights, Mayweather was victorious and no doubt he will be a future hall of famer because of this huge success.

The question that still lingers on my mind right now - and many other boxing fans out there - is that why Victor Ortiz? The simple answer to this question is that Mayweather chose Ortiz because he saw the latter's performance last April 16, against the then undefeated Andre Berto and got the WBC Welterweight Belt. And since Floyd wants to get that belt, he challenged Victor to fight him at the MGM Grand Arena less than a couple of weeks from now in the fight dubbed as Star Power: Ortiz vs Mayweather to be televised on HBO pay-per-view.

Mayweather unhappy with HBO and Ortiz on 24/7 Episode 2

According to undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr, he is unhappy the way HBO (Home Box Office) produced the Episode 2 of the award-winning reality TV series 24/7.

"I was very unhappy with the second episode of 24/7. HBO needs a new editor. The network does not show the real entertainment," according to the American pound-for-pound king in his Twitter account. He is dead beat of seeing the spotlight being sited on the struggles that Victor Ortiz had to overcome. When Ortiz was 7 years old, his mother left the family. His father also left the family when he was 13 years old because of alcohol addiction. What's left was his older sister and younger brother, Temo, who is always with him to help.

In the Mayweather vs Ortiz 24 7 Episode 2 video, HBO was still telling the world how difficult it is for Ortiz to climb to the top and be hailed as the WBC Welterweight Champion. It also showcased the training camp of Ortiz together with his trainer Danny Garcia, the brother and neighbor of Robert Garcia.
