The upcoming fight, dubbed as Star Power: Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz, is set happen on September 17, 2011. It will be a split-site event because the Alvarez vs Gomez, one of the major undercards of this fight, will be settled inside the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
Victor Ortiz weighed in at 157.4 pounds while Floyd Mayweather Jr comfortably weighed in at 149 pounds. The upcoming Mayweather vs Ortiz fight will be for the WBC Welterweight Title which has a weight limit of 147 lbs. Floyd is only 2 pounds higher than the maximum limit. This will be an advantage for him because he will no longer add extra efforts to shed a lot of weight. The fight will happen inside the luxurious MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
The WBC mandated weight for the 30-day pre-fight weigh in is 162-lbs for the Welterweight Division. This allows the sanctioning body to monitor the weight of the boxers to avoid any issues concerning the weight loss of both boxers later on.
Morales vs Matthyse will be on the undercard and the will fight for the WBC Light Welterweight Title. Morales weighed in at 153 lbs whereas Matthysse, who fought versus Devon Alexander fewer than two months ago, seems to be in great shape at 147.5 lbs.
Saul Alvarez came in at 165.5 pounds while Alfonso Gomez weighed in at 161 pounds. Alvarez will defend his WBC junior middleweight belt against Gomez.
Mayweather vs Ortiz Weigh In
On Friday, September 16, there will be final weigh-in of all the boxers that are included in this big event. Referees should check if the boxers are holding the weighing scale or not to avoid any cheating in the weights. If a boxer is over the minimum weigh in limit depending on the division they will fight, he will give a part of his purse to the other boxer as a penalty. We hope no one will be above the minimum weights. Mayweather vs Ortiz weigh in starts at 2:45pm PT / 5:45pm ET.
