Jorge Barrios of Argentina was initially scheduled to fight Mexican boxing legend Eric Morales on September 17 in Las Vegas, Nevada as part of the undercard of the much-discussed Mayweather vs Ortiz fight which will be televised on HBO PPV.
Many thought Barrios' issues regarding his visa to fight in the United States will be settled. His camp was unable to resolve the issues, so Barrios is still 'barred' from fighting Morales. This is the second time the Morales vs Barrios fight fell. They were first scheduled to meet in late 2010 but the same visa issue hindered Jorge.
As a replacement to the Barrios, fellow Argentinean Lucas Matthysse will be his replacement to fight Erik "El Terrible" Morales. The Morales vs Matthysse fight will give the boxing fans more reasons to buy the Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz Tickets or the HBO PPV.
Lucas Martin Matthysse is a tough boxer and lost to two close fights - against Zab Judah and Devon Alexander. Both of his losses were Split Decisions.
Erik Morales is one of the three boxers who won against Filipino boxing icon, Manny Pacquiao, a former resident of General Santos in the Philippines. He is a tough fighter but he is expected to have a tough time against Lucas Matthysse.
Morales last fought Marcos Maidana, another tough Argentinean brawler. Even with his losing effort, he was given praise for his entertainment factor and the heart he bring into his game.
In the Morales vs Matthysse fight, the WBC super lightweight title will be on the line. If Erik Morales wins this bout, he will become the first Mexican professional pugilist to hold championship belts in four different weight classes.
