Mayweather vs Ortiz on September 17

After a long break from the sport, Floyd Mayweather Jr decided to fight Victor Ortiz on September 17 in the United States. There's no final venue yet but both camps are planning to hold the fight inside the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Mayweather vs Ortiz fight will be live via pay-per-view. Since the fight is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions owned by Oscar dela Hoya, there's a big possibility that HBO will televise the fight and promote it through their 24/7 reality TV series featuring the lives and training sessions of both pugilists.

Boxing fans all over the world badly wants Floyd Mayweather Jr to fight Filipino boxing icon, Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao already agreed to the random blood and urine testing for performance enhancing drugs such as steroids but both camps did not agree to the protocol. This is one of the reasons why Floyd settled for Ortiz.

After fighting Shane Mosley in May 1, 2010, Floyd Mayweather Jr has been silent in the boxing world. He has pending cases and court hearing which includes fight over his ex-wife in front of their children, poking an officer and defamation against Manny Pacquiao.

The Mayweather vs Ortiz fight will be for the WBC Welterweight Title. "Vicious" Victor Ortiz, who has a record of 29 (22 KO) wins - 2 losses - 2 draw has been very impressive in his last fights. He last lost to Marcos Rene Maidana in 2009 but in his recent fights he has been very entertaining. He last fought in April 16, 2011 against the then undefeated Andre Berto and won an impressive unanimous decision.

Floyd Mayweather is one of the most impressive boxers of all time. He has fought big names in boxing including Oscar dela Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Carlos Baldomir, Zab Judah and Juan Manuel Marquez (see Pacquiao vs Marquez 3). He has a perfect record of 41 wins (25 KO) - 0 losses.

On September 17, the boxing fans will surely watch this thrilling match. Victor Ortiz is a hard-puncher with a speed comparable or even much better to Floyd Mayweather. Floyd's advantage will be his slick defense, power and counter-punching ability.

Personally, I think Mayweather will win this fight via unanimous decision, what do you think?

If Mayweather wins and Mexican Saul "Canelo" Alvarez wins the Alvarez vs Rhodes fight, it will surely make sense for Mayweather to fight Alvarez if he does not want to fight Pacquiao.
