According to Michael Marley of Examiner.com, "Vicious" Victor Ortiz agreed to a rematch section in order to get the September 17 fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand Garden Hotel and Casino.
Victor Ortiz will defend his WBC Welterweight Belt against Floyd in a fight which doesn't have any "catch-weights", unlike most of Pacquiao's recent fights. He also hopes to fight Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao next year if he is able to win against the undefeated boxer from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Ortiz is definite that he will win against Mayweather in September. Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer, also agrees that Ortiz will be the first boxer to beat Mayweather Jr.
In the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight, Floyd is the heavy favorite as of this writing and there's no way the odds will turn in favor of Victor. After his fight against Marcos Rene Maidana, many thought that Ortiz was not mentally ready to fight the big fights. In his recent fights prior to fighting Andre Berto, his opponents were clearly handpicked by his promoter so he can become one of the main boxers of the promotional company.
In his win against Andre Berto, Ortiz was then tagged as one of the most dangerous pugilists today. His speed and power is clearly not comparable to Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather but blatantly promoting it may do the trick.
The Ortiz vs Mayweather fight will be televised on HBO PPV and a Mayweather vs Ortiz: 24/7 reality TV series will start on August 27 to help promote the fight. Mayweather may be off from the sport for a long time but there's no way Victor can win against him. If ever Victor wins, he will fight Floyd Jr. again in a rematch and if he wins in the rematch, a fight against Manny Pacquiao will be immenent.
