Boxing needs "winner-takes-all" not "guaranteed purse"

Last Saturday, we all saw that scandal done by Floyd "Money" Mayweather and "Vicious" Victor Ortiz to the sport of boxing. Millions of boxing fans around the globe, who watched the fight, say that it was a scripted or staged or drama fight because of several reasons.

A clear indication that the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight was a scripted fight is that Ortiz, who used to be a clean fighter in all of his previous fight, took off like a NASA spaceship after he cornered Mayweather. Using his head, he clearly hit him in the chin and Floyd responded as if he was very hurt. Referee Joe Cortez stopped the action and Ortiz hugged and kissed Floyd, which is gay thing to do for a fighter of his type. Cortez brought Ortiz to the middle of the ring (and Floyd to the corner) to deduct a point to the scorecards.

Now all three were in the middle of ring. Victor continue to apologize to Floyd and tried to hug him again which is still very unorthodox for a fighter, even a young 24-year-old, to do. Before Cortez was able to say "fight" or "go" because he was still looking at the judges or timekeeper, Mayweather hit Ortiz with a left-hook and right-straight - both punches, in my opinion, don't look very strong to KO the likes of Ortiz - and Victor went down to the canvass easily. Cortez then reacted to the knockdown by counting from one to ten and Victor no longer stood up.

Results, Replay and Reaction

The mega-event that featured undefeated American Floyd Mayweather Jr and Mexican-American Victor Ortiz was a success except for, in my opinion, the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight. Even though many are not happy with the outcome of the main-event, boxing fans still appreciate the very entertaining fights, end results and who won.

The first televised fight was the Vargas vs Lopez fight. Vargas managed to win against Lopez by SD (split decision) in a very entertaining fight. The official cards were 95-94 Lopez, 96-93 Vargas and 95-94 for Vargas but many thought Lopez won the fight.

After a slow start, Mexican-legend Erik Morales came back to life in the middle rounds. He now won his fourth weight division title as he pound down undefeated 21-year-old Pablo Cesar Cano in a bloody fight. Because Cano can no longer continue to handle Morales' barrage of punches, referee Kenny Bayless decided to stop the fight in the 10th round.

It is Fight Time!

Mayweather vs Ortiz fight time is finally here. Answered today will be the many questions boxing fans around the world wants to know. Will Mayweather still be the same veteran boxer and win against a young southpaw? Will Ortiz pull an upset on fight night and retain his crown?

It is fight time and there is no stopping it. Trending in Facebook, Twitter and Search Engines right now are topics about Mayweather vs Ortiz (held at MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada) and the heavy undercard that includes Alvarez vs Gomez (held at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California), Morales vs Cano (MGM Grand) and Lopez vs Vargas (MGM Grand).

Because the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight happens today, the weekend after the Mexican Independence Day, Mexican boxing fans will surely fill the two sites that will hold the events. Floyd Mayweather is the heavy favorite and the betting odds are in the middle of -600 and -800. Five months ago, Victor Ortiz may have won and acquired his WBC Welterweight belt against Andre Berto but he is still the underdog with betting odds between +400 and +525.

The long wait is finally over, Mayweather and Ortiz fights today

Announced first in April 2011, the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight will finally happen today. After Victor Ortiz's (29 wins, 2 losses, 2 draws, 22 knockouts) win against previously undefeated and reigning WBC Welterweight title-holder, Andre Berto, Floyd Mayweather Jr (41 wins, 0 loss, 25 knockouts) climb up the squared circle and presented himself to be the next opponent of the newly crowned champion.

The long wait is finally here. Mayweather versus Ortiz will happen tonight inside the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Boxing fans are already anxious to hear Michael Buffer, the ring announcer, to deliver his popular boxing spiel - "Are you ready to rumble?"

The betting odds of boxing are all favoring undefeated American Floyd Mayweather Jr but 24-year-old Victor Ortiz is unfazed of his underdog status. He is confident that after the fight, he will still be the WBC Welterweight Champion of the world.

Tonight, catch the round by round live updates on the Ortiz vs Mayweather mega-fight. It is expected that that jam-packed crowd inside the venue and the millions of fans watching on HBO live streaming will be entertained by the fireworks performance of the two boxers and their undercards.

Official weights:
Jessie Vargas - 142 lbs vs. Josesito Lopez - 140.5 lbs

Victor Ortiz - 147 lbs vs Floyd Mayweather - 146 1/2 lbs

Fight Analysis

The Mayweather vs Ortiz fight is very much in the air now. Many boxing fans waited for Floyd Mayweather's comeback fight - and they were expecting it to be against Manny Pacquiao - but Floyd chose another southpaw, Victor Ortiz. Searches at Google about Ortiz vs Mayweather is very overwhelming now, we can really see the increase in the search results in the United States and other parts of the world.

Floyd Mayweather's patented shoulder-roll defense will surely frustrate Victor on Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz fight night. Even though their camp reviewed the tape repeatedly, Mayweather's defense will still be the best in the sport. "Pretty Boy" used to be the moniker of Mayweather because no one has really dismantled his face yet. One opponent after another, Floyd has used the shoulder-roll as a technique to deny the onslaught oppositions' give him.

Danny Garcia believes that there is a solution on Floyd's shoulder-roll and that is to bring him to the ropes. Ortiz will then fight in close distance. If Victor can make it a phone-booth fight, he has a chance of landing a huge uppercut that can surely hurt Mayweather.

As much as we wanna see Mayweather get washed, I don't think it's likely to happen against Ortiz

Numerous boxing fans believed that Victor Ortiz would be "Vicious" enough to hand Floyd "Money" Mayweather his first defeat in his 16-year professional boxing career. I know a lot of boxing fans out there agree with me that as much as we want to see the undefeated American suffer his first loss, it is less likely to happen on Saturday in the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight.

Floyd Mayweather Jr may be the villain of the sport but he has also made it what it is today - $70 for HD (High Definition) pay-per-view, not giving the fans what they want by not fighting Pacquiao, long absences from the sport is still fine, random drug testing and a lot more. Obviously, he is one of the best boxer-promoters of this generation who knows how to promote his fights blatantly - including the upcoming Mayweather vs Ortiz.

Mayweather's date with Victor Ortiz is on Sept 17 at 6pm Pacific Time (or 9pm Eastern Time). The event dubbed as Star Power features entertaining undercards' Alvarez vs Gomez, Morales vs Cano and Vargas vs Lopez. Mayweather vs Ortiz will be the main event.

Greatest Hits of Victor Ortiz by HBO Sports

"Vicious" Victor Ortiz has recently risen to stardom after defeating one of the best full-pledge welterweights in the sport of boxing, Andre Berto, last April. His hard childhood living without the care of his real parents almost half of his life has made him become what he is today - a real fighter inside and outside the boxing ring.

The Mayweather-Ortiz fight is coming very soon and both fighters are confident that they will win. Undefeated Floyd Mayweather may have the bragging rights because of his forty-one straight wins without any loss but Ortiz is determined to derail the American come fight night. When they fight atop the squared circle inside the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, it will surely be fireworks. The entertainment factor of both pugilists is so high that fans do not want to blink their eyes to avoid missing any action.

Fueled by an entertaining hard-punching style and one of the most intriguing and heartrending stories of any fighter in boxing, Victor Ortiz has emerged as a star in the welterweight division with super big fights now on the horizon for him.

Greatest Hits of Floyd Mayweather by HBO Boxing

Three more days to go and fans are very anxious to see boxing icon Floyd Mayweather fight on top of the squared circle again after 16 months. He will face Victor Ortiz who will put his WBC Welterweight Belt on the line. The Mayweather vs Ortiz event will be held inside the luxurious MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States of America.

Undefeated Floyd "Money" Mayweather always use his bragging rights to promote all of his recent fights. Many dubbed him as the Cash Cow of the sport because he, with Oscar de la Hoya, has achieved the highest number of pay-per-view sales so far which totaled to 2.4 million buys in 2007.

Through forty-one consecutive wins in his professional career, analysts say that there is no blueprint of defeating Mayweather at his time of his career. But included in his brilliant record are some curiously long absences from the ring.

Floyd Mayweather has built the reputation as #1: perhaps the finest fighter of his generation and #2: as one of the greatest defenders in the history of the sport.

Is Mayweather a Cash Cow or a Cash Coward?

It's only three more days to go before the much-awaited Star Power event which features American boxer Floyd Mayweather and Mexican-American boxer Victor Ortiz. They will fight for the WBC (World Boxing Council) Welterweight Title at a weight limit of 147 lbs; anyone who weighs beyond the limit will give a percent of his guaranteed purse to his opponent.

This upcoming event will be Floyd Mayweather's comeback fight after not fighting for sixteen long months which made his huge number of followers suffer so much. He last fought and won against Shane Mosley in 2010. After the fight, enthusiasts and fans were one on saying that Floyd should fight Manny Pacquiao next. After a couple of months, the undefeated Mayweather told the world, through an unknown interviewer, that he will be taking a 2-year off from the sport of boxing.

Probably because of fear, Mayweather has always provided excuses so he will not fight Pacquiao, who has a huge chance of defeating him. Pacquiao vs Marquez is on November 12 and boxing fans are hoping that Manny and Floyd will win their respective fights

In the United Kingdom, the broadcaster will be Primetime Live and the feed costs 14.95 pounds. They are expected to sell the second largest PPV, after the United States. For a comprehensive list of International Broadcasting Networks, please refer to the list below:

Fight results forecast, Mayweather will win versus Ortiz

Over eighty percent of boxing fans from all over the world believe that the results of the Ortiz vs Mayweather fight on Saturday, September 17th is easy to predict. Many agree that the fight will be won by undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Mayweather, whose professional boxing career started on October 1996, is one of the few boxers who have won more that forty times and still remained unbeaten. He is very proud of his achievements, not only as an undefeated boxer with six world championships, but as a father to his children and owner of a foundation.

Many see Floyd as an arrogant person; and in fact, I also think he is. He is one of the few boxers who really know how to sell an event even if it includes blatantly promoting the fight which includes scuffles during the face-off in a press conference and trash-talking in the promotional videos.

Considered by many as one of the most outspoken boxers of all time, Floyd Mayweather Jr expresses his happiness, through his official Facebook page, by telling the world how he was delighted by Episode 3 of 24/7 - Mayweather vs Ortiz developed by HBO Sports.

Most fight fans also agree that the production result of Part 3 of the award-winning reality TV series was really fantastic.

"I want to thank the entire HBO staff for doing a wonderful job and redeeming themselves on 24/7 this week. I enjoyed the show very much," Mayweather exclaimed in his Facebook account. The Mayweather vs Ortiz 24 7 Episode 2 distressed Mayweather because he is tired of seeing the rugs-to-riches story of Victor.

"To all fans thanks for the support and keep tuning in to 24/7. PPV is available for the fight right now. Purchase it early for better prices," Mayweather added. He wants the boxing fans to see his much awaited comeback after fighting against "Sugar" Shane Mosley, 16 months ago.

Has Ortiz developed his footwork and lateral movements?

The scheduled date of undefeated American Floyd Mayweather versus current WBC Welterweight Champion Victor Ortiz is fast approaching. Eight days from now, the sun on September 17 will come out from the horizon and we hope that both talented fighters will wake up confident and strong for their fight in the evening on that day at 9pm Eastern Time (6pm Pacific Time).

Based on the Mayweather vs Ortiz tale of the tape, there are really no significant advantage one boxer has over the other. The only thing that separates Floyd Mayweather Jr from Victor Ortiz is his experience inside the ring; his age is 10 years older than the 24-year-old young champion.

According to many boxing fans, "Vicious" Victor Ortiz needs to improve on his hunting ability, which includes his footwork and lateral movements. He needs to get better in his short and compact punches, so he can exchange punches with the slick Floyd Mayweather. If the compact punches land on Floyd's body it will surely have a devastating effect even if parried or blocked. In Ortiz's previous fights, many have seen that he still throws wild swings. These types of punches, even though they can hurt, can be easily read by the intelligent ring veteran. It can be easily evaded and countered by Floyd.

Video - Preview of September 17 mega-event

Mayweather vs Ortiz fight preview:

"I said it when I was nine years old, one day I'm a be world champion," WBC Welterweight Champion Victor Ortiz said. "And that day I'm gonna also beat Mayweather for the first time ever. I said this when I was nine. I didn't just say this last week, a month ago, three months ago. I said this when I was nine years old... That career is over, mine has just begun."

WHAT? Are you kidding me Victor Ortiz? Are you telling us lies?

Here's the thing - Mayweather's professional debut was on October 11, 1996 versus Roberto Apodaca. That was the same year Ortiz was nine years old. Floyd was a "nobody" during that time in the professional boxing scene because he hasn't proven yet what he has proven today. And Ortiz is telling the world through the HBO video below that he was already aiming for a championship fight against Floyd Mayweather when he was nine? Oh, come on. We know you can hype-up the fight more than that...

Underdog Victor is positive of win versus Floyd

Even though "Vicious" Victor Ortiz is the current World Boxing Council Welterweight title-holders, he is still the huge underdog coming into this fight against Floyd "Pretty Boy" Mayweather.

Ortiz is confident of pulling one of the greatest upsets in the history of boxing on September 17 in Las Vegas. He is looking for a knockdown because he knows if the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight goes the distance, Mayweather may get the better of him. He acknowledges his opponent's achievements in the sport and knows that he will be up against one the most intelligent fighters of all time.

Floyd Mayweather Jr used to be the pound-for-pound king of boxing. He vacated the throne because it was already over a year since he last fought and won inside the squared circle. He is undefeated at 41 wins (25 knockouts) and he believes the skills of Victor won't be enough to overpower him. He sees his opponent as boxing's newest star but he is also confident that his light will shine brighter on fight night and bring home the WBC welterweight title.

Ortiz is prepared of Mayweather's dirty tactics

Pugilists Floyd Mayweather Jr and Victor Ortiz Jr are both known to play fair and square. But on September 17, fair and square may no longer be the name of the game. Ortiz believes that Mayweather may have some dirty tricks in mind to avoid his vicious attacks.

Victor Ortiz is a southpaw just like Filipino boxing icon and pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao. He believes Floyd hand-picked him because he is a lefty and his power is comparable to Manny. He doesn't want to be considered as a tune-up fighter because, not only he is the current WBC welterweight title-holder, he has a huge possibility of winning against the undefeated American boxing king.

Ortiz vs Mayweather fight is coming soon and boxing fans all over the globe are very much excited to see this super-fight even though experts predicted this fight as another win for Floyd.

Confident Mayweather bets Ortiz and Oscar $2.5-M each

Obviously because of his clean record as a boxing professional, Floyd Mayweather Jr is over-confident that he will win on Sept 17 against current World Boxing Council Welterweight title-holder Victor Ortiz Jr.

"If Victor Ortiz believes in himself and Oscar De La Hoya believe in Victor Ortiz, I bet 'em both $2.5 million a piece," according to Floyd as he took a short rest from punching the heavy bag. He told the media and fans who were in front of him that he's more than willing to see just how positive his opponent Victor Ortiz, as well as his promoter Oscar de la Hoya, really are concerning their odds to be the first to break his clean undefeated record.

During the media workout yesterday, Floyd looked sharp and confident of his win in the upcoming Ortiz vs Mayweather fight ten days from now. After he told everyone about the bet, the room immediately went soundless as Floyd made it apparent that he's being serious about his offer.

Mayweather looking sharp during media workout

Undefeated boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr opened his doors to the fans and the media yesterday evening for an open workout prior to his forthcoming fight against Victor Ortiz Jr on Saturday, September 17th live in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This will give the fans and media a glimpse of how ready he is for the upcoming mega-event titled as Star Power. Mayweather personally hand-picked Ortiz after seeing the latter acquired the WBC Welterweight Belt against previously undefeated Andre Berto in April. Floyd was excited to tell Victor that he wants to fight him next, give the fans an entertaining fight and give him a good percentage of the total money the whole event will make.

Floyd Mayweather vs Ortiz is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, a company owned by Mexican-American Oscar de la Hoya. It will be co-promoted by Mayweather Promotions, the promotional company of Floyd, together with HBO PPV and MGM Grand.

Why Ortiz, not Cotto, Margarito or Pacquiao for Mayweather?

We all know that Floyd Mayweather Jr won against prime boxers in recent years, except probably on his last fight against old Shane Mosley, who is already at the twilight of his career. Years ago, Mayweather fought against highly-skilled popular boxers including previously undefeated Ricky Hatton from England, Mexican-American Oscar de la Hoya, and Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez among many others. In all of his 41 fights, Mayweather was victorious and no doubt he will be a future hall of famer because of this huge success.

The question that still lingers on my mind right now - and many other boxing fans out there - is that why Victor Ortiz? The simple answer to this question is that Mayweather chose Ortiz because he saw the latter's performance last April 16, against the then undefeated Andre Berto and got the WBC Welterweight Belt. And since Floyd wants to get that belt, he challenged Victor to fight him at the MGM Grand Arena less than a couple of weeks from now in the fight dubbed as Star Power: Ortiz vs Mayweather to be televised on HBO pay-per-view.

Mayweather unhappy with HBO and Ortiz on 24/7 Episode 2

According to undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr, he is unhappy the way HBO (Home Box Office) produced the Episode 2 of the award-winning reality TV series 24/7.

"I was very unhappy with the second episode of 24/7. HBO needs a new editor. The network does not show the real entertainment," according to the American pound-for-pound king in his Twitter account. He is dead beat of seeing the spotlight being sited on the struggles that Victor Ortiz had to overcome. When Ortiz was 7 years old, his mother left the family. His father also left the family when he was 13 years old because of alcohol addiction. What's left was his older sister and younger brother, Temo, who is always with him to help.

In the Mayweather vs Ortiz 24 7 Episode 2 video, HBO was still telling the world how difficult it is for Ortiz to climb to the top and be hailed as the WBC Welterweight Champion. It also showcased the training camp of Ortiz together with his trainer Danny Garcia, the brother and neighbor of Robert Garcia.

Order of events for Mayweather vs Ortiz PPV fight

First off will be minor fights (not televised) which will commence the upcoming fight between Mexican-American Victor Ortiz and undefeated American Floyd Mayweather. The first televised bout will be the Josesito Lopez vs Jessie Vargas fight. It will be the first of four fights to be broadcasted on HBO pay-per-view.

The Mayweather vs Ortiz mega-event, dubbed as Star Power, will be a split-site coverage because another young Mexican rising star will fight in the co-main event.

It will be followed by a fight featuring Mexican Erik Morales (51-7, 35 KOs), a three-division titleholder versus hard-punching Lucas Matthysse (28-2, 26 KOs) for the vacant WBC junior welterweight belt. Video: Floyd Mayweather fight speak

Undefeated American Floyd Mayweather Jr discusses about his ring strategies in his fights with the previously undefeated Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton and Mexico's number one boxer Juan Manuel "El Dinamita" Marquez as he prepares to face Victor Ortiz for the WBC (World Boxing Council) Welterweight Belt. Mayweather vs Ortiz will be on Saturday, September 17th only on HBO pay-per-view.

"In the Hatton fight, Ricky was all coming to play a lot of pressure - because every fighter has a game plan to apply a lot of pressure. Pressure, pressure, pressure. My thing is just to be me. Be the Floyd Mayweather and stick to what I've been doing," said Mayweather who knocked Hatton down in the 11th round of their fight. "I felt in my heart once I dropped him then he got up, I feel that the fight was over. When he got up he's still was kinda weary. I'm glad that Joe Cortez gave him the chance to keep fighting - a guy who has fought his whole life to get to that point - you got to give him a chance, you got to give him the opportunity."

Struggles in life brought Ortiz on top

All of his life, Victor Ortiz has fought the big fights - most of them outside of the boxing ring - and he won almost all of them. He is the second of three children of Mexican parents who went to Garden City, Kansas where a large number of about 27,000 Mexicans live today.

Victor will fight Floyd Mayweather Jr on September 17 in Las Vegas and many of his neighbors are expected to fly with him and support when he defends his WBC Welterweight Belt in the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight.

Victor was just seven years old when his mother left the family. When he was thirteen, his father also left them because of alcohol addiction.

First five rounds crucial for Ortiz to beat Mayweather

Everyone knows "Vicious" Victor Ortiz is an all-out fighter who doesn't back out from any exchange of punches. He scored a knocked against most of his previous opponents inside the ring. Many boxing analysts and fans believed that the only way for him to win against Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr is to give everything he's got in the first five rounds of the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight. Experts predict that Mayweather will win but this will be a very entertaining fight.

The first few rounds of the Mayweather vs Ortiz fight will be very crucial because both pugilists still have solid strong punches that can KO the opponent with just one punch. Mayweather is expected to study the moves and punches of Ortiz in the first two rounds so he can work on his game plan in the middle rounds until the end of the fight.

Only way for Ortiz to win is by KO

A lot of boxing lovers out there believed that underdog Ortiz has a chance to win against heavy-favorite Floyd Mayweather Jr. According to many comments found on forums and other social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, Victor Ortiz can win against Floyd if he goes for the KO. If the fight goes the distance, it will be a sure win f Mayweather because he has better defense and throws accurate punches.

Knockout artist Victor Ortiz is one of the few boxers today that still has the killer instinct. In his 29 wins, 22 are won via stoppage. He has a higher KO percentage compared to American Floyd Jr.

Aaccording to boxing fan Eddie Pullman, Victor Ortiz must KO Floyd Mayweather Jr or he will lose on the score cards, round after round. Ortiz has the power to get it done but he cannot outbox Floyd. So if Ortiz does not KO Floyd, it's another victory for Mayweather.

Fans are already excited to watch Floyd vs Victor

It's the first day of September and many of the boxing fans all over the world are already excited to see the mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz.

The Mayweather vs Ortiz fight is just around the corner. It will happen atop the squared circle inside the majestic MGM Grand Hotel and Casino on September 17, 2011. Victor, who recently won the WBC Welterweight from Andre Berto last April 16, will defend his belt against the undefeated Floyd Jr.

Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr is a future hall of famer because undisputedly he is one of the best in the sport today, if not of all time. He is returning to the ring after 16 months of inactivity from the sport because many of his boxing fans around the globe are anxious to see him fight again. Although many are expecting him to fight Manny Pacquiao when he returns, he chose Victor Ortiz instead.
