Promotional tour kicks-off June 28

The national media promotional tour of the upcoming fight between Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. and "Vicious" Victor Ortiz will start on Tuesday, June 28. The two-city press conference will start in New York followed by a stop in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 29.

Victor Ortiz will defend his WBC (World Boxing Council) Welterweight Belt against undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr on September 17. The fight venue is not set yet because Golden Boy Promotions have been discussing with MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, at the moment. In the next couple of days, Schaefer will reveal where the upcoming super-fight will go - but it's most likely to be at the MGM Grand Arena where Floyd Mayweather fought his last four fights.

Star Power: Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz

Golden Boy Promotions, through main promoter Richard Schaefer, has finally revealed the title of the upcoming fight between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz. The title of this big boxing event which will happen on September 17 will be "Star Power".

Schaefer said that they will use "Star Power" as the name of the fight because Mayweather is the biggest star in boxing today and Victor Ortiz is one of the most explosive guys in boxing because he can knock anybody down.

Floyd Mayweather last fought in May 1, 2010 against "Sugar" Shane Mosley and won in the lopsided bout. Mosley never had another chance at pulling an upset after that 2nd round right hook which he landed in face of the undefeated fellow American.

Floyd Mayweather vs Ortiz will be on HBO PPV

Golden Boy Promotions and HBO PPV (Home Box Office-Pay Per View) has finally settled the agreement to televise the fight between undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr and current WBC (World Boxing Council) Welterweight title holder, Victor Ortiz.

The Mayweather vs Ortiz fight may be one of the most discussed fights today. Many boxing analysts believed that Victor does not have enough physical and mental strength to fight the best boxer in the world (next to Manny Pacquiao?). Ortiz's skills will not be enough for Mayweather.

As part of the promoting the fight, Richard Schaefer and Oscar dela Hoya always assures the fans that this will be the most entertaining boxing event in history. With the help of HBO in promoting the fight through the multi-awarded reality TV series, 24/7, among many others, the fight will surely be a "bang" in the boxing world.

Ortiz skills will not be enough for Mayweather

On September 17, Victor Ortiz will take on Floyd Mayweather for the WBC (World Boxing Council) Welterweight Belt in a fight with a weight limit of 147 lbs.

Many analysts and boxers deemed Ortiz's skills not enough for the high-caliber abilities of Floyd Mayweather Jr who has an undefeated record since his professional boxing debut in 1996. Victor won five of his last six fights - the other one was a draw to Lamont Peterson in December 2010 - after the 6th round TKO loss to Marcos Rene Maidana in June 2009.

Even though his power and speed were evident in his last fight against the then undefeated Andre Berto last April, "Vicious" Victor Ortiz will have a hard time dealing with the defense and power of the undefeated Michigan native.

Boxing doesn't need Mayweather vs Ortiz

And you already know why... Boxing badly needs Mayweather vs Pacquiao and not Mayweather vs Ortiz.

On September 17, 2011, Floyd Mayweather, 41 wins (25 KOs) - 0 loss, will fight against Victor Ortiz, 29 wins (22 KOs) - 2 losses - 2 draws, in the United States. Assuming the fight will happen in Las Vegas, Nevada, will the venue be sold-out? maybe, probably because of Floyd's name. Is Victor Ortiz enough to give both boxers additional incentives from the PPV buys? I don't think so.

Boxing fans want to see Floyd Mayweather fight Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao. Many believed the undefeated American is dodging the fighting congressman from the Philippines to avoid any dirt in his clean record.

Mayweather vs Ortiz on September 17

After a long break from the sport, Floyd Mayweather Jr decided to fight Victor Ortiz on September 17 in the United States. There's no final venue yet but both camps are planning to hold the fight inside the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Mayweather vs Ortiz fight will be live via pay-per-view. Since the fight is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions owned by Oscar dela Hoya, there's a big possibility that HBO will televise the fight and promote it through their 24/7 reality TV series featuring the lives and training sessions of both pugilists.

Boxing fans all over the world badly wants Floyd Mayweather Jr to fight Filipino boxing icon, Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao already agreed to the random blood and urine testing for performance enhancing drugs such as steroids but both camps did not agree to the protocol. This is one of the reasons why Floyd settled for Ortiz.
